Learning The Roofing Industry: The Formative Years
BEI Exterior Maintenance’s story began in 1978. Our founder, Walt Burris, embarked on his lifelong career by selling roofing systems to homeowners. Through this experience, he learned about roofing by observing and studying.
In 1981, Walt applied his knowledge by establishing Burris Enterprises Inc., a consulting and independent sales company. Over the next few years, Walt gained invaluable experience and became highly respected in the roofing industry.
A colossal business break came in 1994. That year, Burris Enterprises Inc. was asked to assist in renovating 80 condominiums severely damaged by powerful straight-line winds. Walt invited his son, David, to help with this project.
Forging A Partnership: The Birth Of BEI Exterior Maintenance
Walt reasoned that if he and David were still speaking to each other after this enormous undertaking, they would form a new business partnership. Thus, BEI Exterior Maintenance was born. Walt, David, and Walt’s wife, Ellen, became partners.
Initially, BEI Exterior Maintenance worked exclusively in roofing. However, the business’s focus pivoted in 1998 when one of the most potent hailstorms hit the Twin Cities. Nearly one-third of homeowners were adversely impacted by this storm.
In the aftermath of this event, BEI Exterior Maintenance diversified by adding home exterior remodeling services. As the business expanded, it received many distinguished awards for roofing, construction, and exterior maintenance.
As a state-licensed Minnesota Multi Housing Association (MHA) roofing instructor for over two decades, Walt has shared his expertise with countless CRMT maintenance professionals. He continues to have a passion for learning and growing.
